Face painting.

It was a schools fair in the BIS school 4,  which is located near to our school.  IB students could go and do different kinds of activities in that school.  And we came up with different ideas for kids from that school. Mr O'Connor told us to divide in different groups of 3 or 2 students and each of us had to have different activities.
I was in a group with Aina and Yein. We decided to do the face painting as it is very interesting,  exciting and children love it.  I think by doing that activity we showed perseverance and commitment in our actions and also worked collaboratively with each other.  We were so interested in it that we even forgot to have a lunch and we did not have a break as there was a very big line of children awaiting for their face to be painted in different kinds of colors.
I painted faces of about 7 students and each time I tried to come up with a new picture and a pattern.
These are the pictures of children and their face paints:

Designing a boat

When we were in Istra we did a lot of investigations and also some fun activities too.
One of them was designing a boat so that it can move because of chemicals we put in it and not sink.
My partner was Natalia Smolenova,  we shared ideas and helped each other in designing a nice boat.  Our boat looked like a cutter,  we well balanced it so that it will not sink in water and made a propeller like structures on each side of it where we also made hall.  So that the co2 from chemicals that we put in can escape and make the boat to move.  Our experiment worked very well:)
 Yes that's our boat:)
By doing this activity i developed new skills,  undertook new challenges as I never made boats,  which didn't sink on water and actually did move.  I also showed perseverance and commitment and worked collaboratively with Natalia.
I enjoyed that activity because our boat did move.

Going to sport and continuing to jog.

This semester instead of running I decided to jog and also to  go to the gym.
I planned that once a week i will go jogging and once a week I will go to the gym.  There is another small park near our house and I was jogging there.  I spent one hour in the gym.
Also in June I went to the Geography field trip,  we went there to investigate the river.  River in Bitzevsky park.  It starts at the beginning of the park and ends at it's ending.  The park is 10 km long from north to south and 1.5-4 km long from east to west.
We walked a lot in that park and also run when it was raining:)
It was a good experience and a good activity.
By doing this activities I showed perseverance and commitment in my actions,  planned and initiated my activity( except Geography field trip),  increase awareness of my own strength and areas for growth.  And also in my opinion I considered ethical implication of my actions as I didn't miss any day of jogging and gym.

Sewing

For creativity part of my IB programme i decided to choose to learn how to sew.  I was very bad at sewing but always wanted to learn how to sew and make pictures.  To do so I bought a special sewing painting from a shop.  I chose a flower picture and all of the materials were already inside it.  I had lots of different threads,  with variety of colours.  Special wood like circle on which I held the material and needles.  The material on,  which I sew was not very big,  smaller than an A4 paper but it was a bit challenging as I had to sew in the right order and match all the colours.  I undertook new challenges as well as developed new skills. Showed perseverance and commitment of my actions as it took me retty long time to finish sewing.  I also planned and initiated my own activity because I did it for 30 minutes twice a week.  In my opinion by doing this activity I also increased my awareness of my own strength and areas for growth.
Other outcomes,  which weren't present are:

  • Engaged with issues of global importance
  • considered ethical implication of my actions
I also really enjoyed sewing :)  and will definitely do it again in future!

Playing piano and learning new music

Playing piano is one of my hobbies! Although I remember I didn't like it that much when i was small,  my mom forced me to play and told me that I will thank her one day, and that's true I really did:)
When I moved to Moscow I left my piano at home and didn't play for more than two years,  unfortunately I forgot some of the notes and the sings but now I brought my old books and can read and play again !!
Couple of months ago I decided to buy a new music book from a piano shop,  I saw a music called "Sherburskiye zontiki".
At first it was hard to read the notes but then I got used to it and started to play normally after couple of days.
It is a very nice melody,  from a French movie " The Umbrellas of Cherbourg".
By learning how to play this melody I showed perseverance and commitment of my actions,  planned and initiated my activity and increased awareness of my own strength and areas for growth.
Other outcomes,  which were not present are:
  • Developed new skills
  • Engaged with issues of global importance
  • undertook new challenges
  • considered ethical implications of my actions.

Making Pachlava and selling it.

I have already donated money to the charity,  which name is jazz and classic organization.
They are lot's of children with different types of sicknesses..
I thought that i will make pachlava,  a national Azerbaijani bakery and sell it.
The arrival of my grandmother was a good news not only because i missed her but also because she can teach me to bake lot's of different national cookies:)
She really did help me a lot,  as i am  a very bad cook and never made this type of complex pachlava.
It took me and my grandma more than an hour to make "Pachlava"
The ingredients which were needed are:

  • wheat flour
  • salt
  • melted butter
  • eggs
  • milk
  • tremor
  • nuts
  • sugar
  • cardamom( to put it on top) as a decoration.
  • hazelnut
  • water
First I had to grind nuts and then mix it with sugar and with cardamom.  Make a pestry before even starting to mix nuts with sugar,  so that it will be ready. After making a pestry i had to take it and cut it into almost identical peaces.  not very big and not very small.  Then roll all of those peaces of pastry and make them very thin.  I spilled oil,  flour on top of every layer and then put them all on top of each other.
After doing that I gave the form of "pachlava" to thin layers of pastry. One of the last things is to grease the pastry with yolk and then put it in the oven.  the temperature has to be approximately 180 degrees and i put it in the oven for 30- 45 mins.
I think by baking this type of "Pachlava" I undertook new challenges and developed new skills. In my opinion i also showed perseverance and commitment as it took a long time to make this type of bakery and also planned and initiated my activity.  I bought all the ingredients and almost maid all of the sweeties by myself,  my grandmother was helping me sometimes. I also increased my awareness of my own strength and areas for growth.  I am planning to sell them at school this wednesday and Thursday.  Once i do it and donate the money to the charity I think I will engage with issues of global importance.

Unfortunately I couldn't sell pachlava at school as it was already the end of term and noone had time because students were getting ready for exams.  However I donated all of the pachlava that I made to a women and her friends who are cleaning the whole building.  I also explained them what it is and that it is actually a holiday pastry.  They liked it and knew about my culture a bit more:)

Walking with an old lady!:)

As a service part of my CAS I chose to walk with an aging woman every week.  My family and me moved to a new apartment and met new neighbors who are in their 70s,  they are a nice couple but don't have any siblings living close to this place.
After meeting them twice I realized that a lady has some problems with seeing things and she sometimes goes outside in a will chair.  I thought of offering her my help,   and she agreed!
I planned walking with her every week.  It turned out that she is a very friendly women and she told me some stories about her,  how she met her husband and somethings about her childhood.
In my opinion by doing this activity i showed perseverance and commitment of my actions I also undertook new challenges as I never before helped an old woman walking,  except my grandparents.
I also planned and initiated the activity as we both had to choose a day convenient for both of us,  and the suitable time. I think i also considered ethical implications of my actions.
Other outcomes,  which were't present are:

  • Increased their awareness of their own strength and areas for growth.
  • Engaged with issues of global importance.
  • Developed new skills.
